The Goshalla Needs YOU!

Posted by gemma on January 30, 2012

We've written about the farm shop previously and had a great response, but now we have a blog written personally by the devotee who is organising the whole project - Lainey. Included is her e-mail address so you can contact her directly. I can promise you will find her very excited to hear from you, and her enthusiasm for the project is catching!

Calling all crafters and artists!

We would like to invite you to be part of an exciting brand new handicrafts project that is opening up at the goshalla in the coming months - the opening of the farm shop.

We want to make products directly from the Manor's land and the fantastic things it offers, so most of what we are selling will be Manor produce. I want to hear your wonderful ideas.

To give you some food for thought on the manor land we currently grow, redcurrents, white currents, blackcurrents, plums, apples, pears, blackberries and a whole host of vegetables through the growing season. For a more comprehensive list please visit What are we growing?. There are also many hedgerows containing various forest herbs and plants. If you think you can make something from the above let me know!

If cooking isn't your thing, can you carve or paint on wood? can you make bird boxes? Bee boxes?

The opportunities are endless and are yours to grab! Come and do something....we need to produce as much as possible from our own land  so whatever your idea contact me.

We need you whatever your skill...
  • jam making
  • juice pressing
  • wood carving
  • candle making
  • knitting
  • sewing
  • soap making
  • card making
  • paper making
  • crafting incense
  • herbalism
  • art

I want to hear from you and see your product. Don't be shy! There is an opportunity for you to showcase
your talents and receive an income for doing so, or even to be a part of this new venture by giving up some time to help man and run the new farm craft shop. What a wonderful service to Krishna and His cows that would be.

To be a part of this wonderful, natural, ancient art of craft, please contact me at lainey@37.com to find out more. No project is too large or too small.

Hare Krsna. Well done Lainey!!! I wish you all the success for the new goshala shop and you can always count on me for help. Hari Hari Bol!!! Your servant Matty. xXx

H.G.Dhananjaya prabhu said, about Bhaktivedant manor that...

“Alot of devotees don’t know this but actually Prabhupada did name the land New Gokula, and that’s why he named the Deities’ Radha-Gokulananda. And he wanted the main activity there to be cow protection, and he wanted 150 cows kept on the property. And i said “well that’s not very practical because of the 17 acres of land there is only 6 which is pasture land and you need at least one acre per cow." And he said "So, you buy another 150 acres of land, what is the difficulty? This is the most important to duty to look after the cows and explain the importance of cow protection.
Besides showing them how the cow is protected we should also be producing milk for sale and butter and yogurt and also ghee. If we make our own ghee then so many people will want to purchase the ghee, because there is nothing like home made ghee." And he said that, "The other activities that devotees should be doing there are spinning and weaving and various different handy crafts." This is what he wanted to happen there.

Hare Krishna Lainey

I am so excited about the new shop opening and can't wait. There are many devotees within the community out with a wide range and abundance of talents and skills and I am glad that they are being given this opportunity. I'm also thrilled that you are taking responsibility for this great project since I know that everything you are a part of, is a success. This is true devotional service, serving and protecting the cows, and engaging devotees in more service. Thank you.

hk.wow i was amazed to see how the craft shopo has really come on.it reminded me of when srila prabhupada used to visit at the manor.
all the devotees would be engaged in getting everything just so right for him.
also when i peeked through the window i was very very very happy to at last see a picture of george harrison somewhere on the manor grounds.
ofcourse,we must be very careful not to over worship george as some devotees have done in the past, however we must never forget the massive contribution he made to srila prabhupada and the movement and devotees,i am sure that srila prabhupada would be very happy with what you are bringing to the manor.i dont believe we have ever met lainey but i am going to come and meet you and introduce myself and feel the nectar from this new long awaited craft project.
